Dr. Andrew Casden, MD, New York, NY, 10003

Dr. Andrew Casden is a board certified orthopaedic spine surgeon specializing in the treatment of childhood and adult spinal disorders. His interests include the treatment of spinal deformity such as scoliosis, kyphosis and other spinal disorders. Dr. Casden specializes in the surgical treatment of herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, tumors and adult spinal problems.

Prior to joining the Spine Institute, Dr. Casden was the named Chief of the Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopedics at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York in 1989. At Mount Sinai, Dr. Casden was Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery where he was recognized as Physician of the Year for Clinical Excellence in 1992.

Dr. Casden joined the Spine Institute as Associate Director of Spine Surgery in 1998. He currently continues in that role and is actively involved in the teaching and research projects of the Spine Institute.

Dr. Casden has extensive experience in the new and exciting field of minimally invasive spinal surgery. These techniques can be used to surgically treat many spinal problems from disc herniation to spinal fusion. In 2002 and 2003 he was the director of a coarse titled “Pedicle Screw Fixation of the Thoracic Spine” which taught other spinal surgeons about the latest surgical techniques for the treatment of spinal deformity. Dr. Casden utilizes the most recent most recent bone growth technology available (BMP) when performing spinal fusion.

Perhaps no field of spinal surgery is as exciting as ADR (artificial disc replacement). Because of the Spine Institute’s ongoing research Dr. Casden is able to offer his patients this alternative to spinal fusions. ADR’s preserve motion and promise to be a major breakthrough in the treatment of spinal problems for the future. ADR is only available in a few select centers in the Northeast and the Spine Institute is fortunate to be one of them.
