Prior to becoming an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon, Dr. Muir received his Master's in Physical Therapy from Stanford School of Medicine and had his own practice in Las Vegas. His ultimate aspiration was to become a surgeon and in maintaining that goal, Dr. Muir earned his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 1986. He completed his residency at Phoenix Orthopedic Residency Program. He is fellowship-trained in spine surgery. Prior to practicing in Las Vegas, Dr. Muir practiced spine surgery for 14 years at the Intermountain Spine Institute in Salt Lake City where he was in charge of the neck surgery program. He has limited his practice to spine related problems only.

Dr. Muir is well versed in all aspects of spinal surgery and conservative care. Dr. Muir's impressive background includes numerous publications and speaking engagements. Dr. Muir is currently and has been the Professor of Spinal Surgery at El Cima Hospital (formally a Baylor Hospital), a consultant for Abbott Medical, Boston Scientific, and Physician for USA Boxing Association. Dr. Muir is fluent in the Spanish language.

William Muir MD spine surgery has an established reputation for excellence that stems from high-quality training, extensive surgical and conservative-yet-progressive treatment approach. We are dedicated to using the most appropriate, comprehensive orthopedic expertise in the service of our patients. Rather than just treating "the symptoms" we make every attempt to identify "the source of the problem". This allows us to be more effective in treatment and to accurately tell the patients what their options are including the pros and cons of each option. Due to Dr. Muir's background as a physical therapist, conservative treatment is well understood and can be tailored to the patient. We pride ourselves in the amount of time and education we provide to each patient. Dr. Muir has limited his clinic days to no more than 20 patients a day to provide adequate time to accurately treat each problem. Our office truly cares for each patient and only offers care that we would offer family members or friends with similar problems. Unless the patient's problem is dangerous, we exhaust all conservative treatment before offering surgical options. We truly put the patient first and paramount.
