Resection is the surgical removal of part or all of a damaged organ or structure, particularly the removal of a tumor. Spinal tumors and lesions that develop on the nerves can cause chronic back pain and should be excised through resection. Likewise, coccydynia can also be treated through the resection of the hypermobile segment of the coccyx to relieve pain.
