Dr. Chahlavi comes to St. Vincent's from Celebration Florida Hospital, where he served as Director of Brain and Spine Tumor Center.

Dr. Ali Chahlavi attended Georgetown Medical School where he was awarded an MD-Research tract degree, earning honors in the research work he performed in neurosurgical oncology. During this time, he published numerous basic science papers, with two of his projects leading to Phase I clinical trial for brain tumors. He was awarded the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) fellowship, a scholarship for his research, and the Stacy L. Rollins, Jr. M.D. award for outstanding work in neurosurgery.

Dr. Chahlavi completed his residency at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) where he pursued research in the field of tumor immunotherapy and was awarded a research fellowship from ABTA and from Neurosurgery Research and Education Fellowship (NREF). Working in conjunction with the immunology laboratory and the Brain Tumor Institute at CCF, he uncovered several key molecular components of highly aggressive cancer which could eventually lead to the treatment of patients with brain tumors. He authored the publication of these data and has made numerous presentations at neurosurgical meetings and institutions.

"We are fortunate to have been able to recruit Dr. Chahlavi to join the neurosurgical division of the Spine & Brain Institute in the St. Vincent's Health System," says Dr. Eric Gabriel, Medical Director, Neurosurgery, St. Vincent's Spine & Brain Institute. "Dr. Chahlavi not only complements our existing treatments of complex spinal disorders via standard and minimally invasive approaches, but also greatly expands our ability to treat unfortunate patients with brain tumors. His extensive clinical and research background will certainly benefit our patients and those of the greater Jacksonville area."

Dr. Chahlavi's clinical interests include primary and metastatic brain tumors, Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemifacial Spasm, endoscopic cranial neurosurgery, minimally invasive spinal surgery, complex spinal surgery, image-guided stereotactic neurosurgery and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. His research interest is in the field of brain tumors, with the goal of translating research into efficacious clinical trials that will ultimately provide superior options for treatment.

Dr. Ali Chahlavi is a Neurosurgeon with St. Vincent's Spine and Brain Institute.
