He completed his residency in Surgery at the Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center and then served as a resident and Chief resident in Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY. Dr. Zigler was the Arnold Fellow in Spine Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

    Dr. Zigler is a Past President of the American Spinal Injury Association, is on the Board of the Cervical Spine Research Society, and is on the Scientific Program Committee for the Spine Arthroplasty Society. Dr. Zigler is a former Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Southern California, the former Chief of the Spinal Injury Service at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center, has written over 40 published articles, and has authored two textbooks on spinal surgery. Dr. Zigler is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques and is an Associate Editor for the Spine Arthroplasty Society Journal. He implanted the first ProDisc lumbar artificial disc in the United States, and has taught the procedure to several hundred surgeons around the world.
