antidepressants and suicide

I hope it's ok to talk about this here. Recently I got a compounded cream with an anti-imflammatory in it so I could rub it on my back instead of taking orally. My doctor said to try it a while and then they could add different things to it. One thing they can add is an antidepressant which he says can work differently than orally, the theory being it works on the nerves where it is applied (I think).

I have tried taking 4 different antidepressants in the past for pain without any good results that I can detect. The first 3 times did not last very long for various reasons so the 4th time I was desperate and wanted to give it a fair shot. I took it (I think Effexor) for about 4 months, starting at a small dose and increasing slowly to where the doc thought it should be.

Then I started getting the bad thoughts about suicide. It would just pop into my head like, "Hey, I could have a soda" except it was, "Hey, I could kill myself!" I have to admit it's not the first time I thought about suicide but this was different. I remember after just 4 years of pain I figured I could only go another 4 years. I have made it long past that but I don't think I can do another 13 years.

Also, my mother has been on antidepressants for depression for about 35 years and she has attempted suicide at least 5 times. All when she was on antidepressants.

So after all that rambling does anyone know anything about topically applied anti-D's? How much goes into your system? Side effects? What has been your experience with antidepressants? I have tried looking but can't find anything.

  • cant use stuff like that prefer older traditional meds like benzo,s and morphine my psychiatrist/addiction specialist very surprised about my reaction to opiates. doing very well. depression lifting very rapidly. i hope you can find somethin that works = well for you.
  • Is gabapentin Neurontin??? If so, that may be a good choice for me because I had to stop Neurontin pretty quick due to stomach problems.

I think lexapro is one I tried already.

Benzo's may be a possibility. They can put opiates in the cream but they probably think I have enough of those.
