Back Pain

Hello, :S

I just found this site and really wanted to talk to people in my situation. I have severe back, leg and sometimes neck pain. My right arm feels like I am being electricuted.

I just had a mri and report states that there is an annular
tear, L5/S1 a broad-based disc bilge with ligamentum flavum hypertrophy and facet hypertrophy which cause mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing and mild spine canal

Please can someone explain in laymens terms. OMG...the pain is killing me. I have ultram which does not help. Neurontin which I just started and amtrix. I just can't take this but don't want surgery. Whats strange is that
some days I am totally fine, but other days I become hysterical with pain.

Thanks in advance for yur response. They want to do the eic or eci and I really have no choice.

    Hey Tina,
Right arm feels like you are being electocuted? As in tingling/numbness?
If that is true you might not want to drag your feet getting the source of that problem fixed. I waited a little too long and now I have permanent nerve damage. None of us want to have surgery if it can be avoided but sometimes it is the only option.
Take care and keep us all posted here to what path you take. There is a lot of good information here that I'm sure you will find useful.
  • Thanks Ranger, I really appreciate you responding. I'm going to let them put the medicine in my back. The pain doctr called today but I was gone to get copy of MRI. She'll call back in am. I really thought about just parking in the doctrs parking lot so i'll be the first one there in morning. Just took the neurontin so maybe i'll get some relief. I was fine yesterday and today is totally different.

Again, thanks so very much. I'll let you all know what happens.
  • Hi Tina,

Someone just posted this website that shows pictures of MRI with different condition. At the site, it has pictures showing how an annual tear is different from a bulge and hernitated disc.

Hope this helps. Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I hope the doctors are helping you in controlling the pain.
  • I ad three discs with tears, two of them were annular tears. I had fusion surgery in Dec along with a diskectomy. I had all the shots and tests there were and nothing helped the pain. So just thought I would let you know my experience with it. I would get another opinion on what to do.
