Hi, I just signed up. Have already received a great deal of help from just reading these posts. So, thank you all! Now I need to ask a question about the Fentanyl patch. I have wall to wall pain.

  • I had my first (and only) patch on for 30 hours, after which I removed it because the whole thing scares the heck out of me. Would I be able to shower now, and let water touch where the patch was...without horrible results? I already asked my pharmicist, but frankly, I trust you guys more!

  • Yes, you can shower and even wash where the patch was with soap and nothing bad will happen. ;)

What scares you so much about using the patch?
  • You need to wear the patch all the time and as prescribed, or else you'll go into bad withdrawals. It takes a couple of weeks to get used to it, and the side effects should gradually go away. I've been on the patches for over a year and I haven't had any problems. I don't feel loopy, spaced out, or dizzy at all and I feel comfortable driving. You can shower and swim while wearing it, and if you worry about it not sticking well they have medical tape for under $2. There alot of info on Fentanyl here, and you can also google it. Be careful and read the patient pamphlet and make sure you follow all the instructions. Take care
  • Do not be afraid of the meds if you need it for pain and it helps. Good luck.
