hello, new to this site, seeking information
Promblem spinal cord pressing nerve. Surgeon request ACDF
fusion of c4-5-6. Site informity. But I"m nervous , can you please provide insight on this procedure

  • Have you tried or talked to the doc about Radio Frequency Denervation? They would kill the nerve in that spot...or do they just want to do the surgery? Did you get a second opinion.
  • Welcome to Spine-Health. Your post was pretty short and sweet - can you give us more info?

In any case, from experience I can tell you this - the surgery isn't as bad as is seems (most of the time, anyway). It sounds like you've already had an MRI and talked with a surgeon about it. I had a 2-lvl and the surgery itself was 3.5 hours. I arrived at the hospital at 7:30am and was out at noon the next day. I had to wear a hard collar for a month then a soft collar for two.

Driving is restricted while in the hard collar. Swallowing is a common problem but mine wasn't bad. You'll need help for at least the first week and you'll have BLT (bending, lifting, twisting) restrictions for probably the first month.

Anyhoo, before I get too into it, please tell us more about yourself so we can get to know you better and can offer more help.

    Again, welcome to SH.
  • I'm new at this and dont have much info tim give except for my symptoms. In May of 08, i was told i had DDD, but not severe enough to worry about, even though i also had right arm trouble along w/neck pain. I ignored it up until now. The pain i am having is a severe burning pain, feels as if someone is holding an curling iron to the back of my neck, it radiates some in the direction of my right shoulder. The pain is constant w/ocassional bursts of severe"burning". 2 days ago i finally saw my Dr. He gave me a steroid injection and said to give it 48 hours. The pain returned that same day, as soon as the numbness from the anesthetic wore off. I also have right arm trouble, w/heaviness and weakness along w/some mild pain. On ocassion my right arm will just flop to my side and i have to let it rest a bit before i can continue. Any advice at all would be appreciated! I'm only 42 and in excellent shape and have always been very physically fit and this is very depressing.

  • I will mention this to my NS on my next visit, however Emory is my second opinion. I wish I had another alternative, i'm very nervous about this. I have been reading on this site, some of the comments are helpful and some just makes me cry. I"m going to pray and do what needs to be done. But i hate i'm having to deal with this. I was told Imay not be able to walk if I do not do something.
did you have thr rfd procedure? and did it help?

  • By the way, hope you feel better after your injections, on August 6, I"m gone for know.Must prepare for my part-time job.Have a blessed day
