Hello all my dear friends! For those of you with failed back surgery syndrone (thank you, medical community, for such a lovely and inconclusive diagnosis!) just wondered how the rest of you are coping with the awful, buring pain. I've read a number of articles and abstracts that suggest that the sooner after onset of painful symptoms with post-lumbar fusion, the better the chances are of a positive long term result. Therefore, I have encouraged my pain doc to be very aggressive. I've had 3 epidural spinal injections and today I had a diagnostic (no steroids) medial nerve branch block. Have a second one scheduled for next week. That's all within 10 months of PLIF surgery.
I am doing my pt exercises. Stretch, stretch, stretch. And my ortho surgeon even gave me permission based on xrays indicating complete fusion, to use my inversion table. Perhaps I am truly being impatient but my daughter is expecting the 1st week in Dec. and my husband has just been reunited with his 2 daughters (from a previous marriage) after a 20 year separation along with 3 new grandchildren I just don't have time to sit around and writhe in pain.
So my question is this - are any of you being aggressive in terms of pain management options??? Would be very interested to here what you are doing (besides meds) like epid. injections. For the record, I am taking neurontin, lortab 20 mgs a day, muscle relaxers as needed and ibuprofen. More meds than I'd like but not huge doses.
Thanks for your input. And hang in there!
