I had my EMG this afternoon and of course it does not look good. The neurologist would only tell me the test showed major nerve compression at c6 and c7. It showed minor nerve compression above and below as well. He told me my surgeon would go over them in detail with me. That is not until the 16th. Does this mean more surgery is in store for me? If my nerve is compressed does this mean my neck has fully fused? I know that we are not suppose to comment on others test results but any personal opinions would be appreciated. The waiting on appointments is enough to drive you nuts.

  • What areas of your neck were previously fused? Yes, the waiting is horrible. Hope you don't have to go through further surgery.

    Best wishes,

  • Susan,

I can't comment of course on your results. I had an EMG prior to my C6/7 fusion. My test results stated "Chronic moderate C6 and C7 radiculopathy on the right." I had surgery for a partial corpectomy and fusion for the C6/7. Now keep in mind, the EMG is a diagnostic tool. Your surgeon will use it along with hopefully imaging (MRI/CT?) as well as an exam on you ...then you both decide the best course of action. With me, mine turned out to be "adjacent disk disease" and I had Stenosis and DDD in that area. He had to look at the whole picture, not just a piece such as the EMG.

    PCTF C4 - T2, Laminectomies C5, C6 & C7. Severe Palsy left arm/hand.
