  • Any numbness, tingling? Any other symptoms? Is it a deep aching type pain? Look up radiculopathy of L5/S1 to see if your symptoms go along with that. Best wishes and gentle hugs...

  • Mary,

So sorry you are flaring again! *HUG* I agree with Mari, you might not be having a 'fibro' flare, but maybe this time it is lumbar! The feet is what is getting me there to that thought. I sure hope tomorrows wedding works out, I can tell you dearly want to attend. Support though gentle *HUG*

  • Nice to know I'm not the only one that 'eezesss' away from doctor stuff here and there due to the possibility that the "S" word might come up!

Please use that room and rest, then ENJOY all the pleasures a wedding and gathering brings!!! Be well my friend! *HUGZ*

  • My guess is that it's BOTH giving you grief! I don't think it's possible to be in pain from one thing without Fibro riding on the back of it.

    It's so very difficult.

  • I have had spine surgery (in my neck) and since that has healed, I was (am) still getting severe pains thoughout my body. They sent me in for yet another MRI and found a herination at the L5 though S1 area - although that doesn't provide any answers about all of the pain I've been having. So, I went back to see my regular Doc and she diagnosed me with having Fibro. - in addition to the neck injury (the reason I needed spine surgery in this area was b/c I had 100% ruptured 2 discs and needed a fusion to repair this area). I know that some days I feel like both things are ganging up on me, but I try to walk a bit each day...if not only to lift my mood, but to also get my joints warmed up.
  • hi barb,
I do also walk and do mild yoga poses...when i'm able i get to heated indooor pool and just to water-walk and do some fibro water exercise helps...

  • Lets see if I can remember what you asked....I apologize if I miss anything. Im at the stage right now where Im tired, but my body just won't stop w/ the pins and needles in my legs to let me sleep.

So, yes I do work. Im a social worker, and I counsel kids who are victims of abuse and neglect, and are in state proceedings (ie. foster care, case still in court). I'm very lucky that I can largely set my own hours (not so much since all kids are mandated to attend school, so I can't start seeing most kids until 2 pm or later - but I do do some school based counsling). I do have a therapy dog - orignally trained to help the kids transistion to being able to be back out in the community (w/ the focus off of them and lessening the anxiety). But, the dog has now also become a great help to me - not only in my work, but at home too.I sometimes have to sit on the floor w/ the kids, so hes a big help in assiting me to get up and back into my seat. He also helps me be more social when Im having a bad day, as my coworkers will come by to pet him, and check in on me too.
I also get to take the kids and the dog for short walks, when I'm able to.I just went in for my 1st spinal injection, and so far - I think it's helped a lot. My husband is awesome! He helps me out a lot (even more so on those bads days when I just ache and ache). The biggest issue Im having lately is w/ my moods and in my lack of sleep. I do think that they're tied together...so maybe if I can figure out how to actually lay down and get some rest - maybe my depressed mood will lift? I do work w/ mostly all women - and we're all social workers...so my workplace is very supportive and allows me to work from home, on days that I don't have clients (like today).
  • Plenty of cold weather where I live..New Hampshire! But, I have no plans on moving, as both sides of the family live here, we both have very steady jobs, and lots of friends. For my L5 and S1 herination my Docs are treating it w/ injections (see above), and PT. I do have my neck fused (2 discs ruptured, so they replaced those w/ "spacers", and 2 metal plates w/ 6 screws hold everything in place). I did have to go to a disibility specialist (as we were suing the person who caused my car accident..ask if you want details), and it deemed that my neck alone (without counting my broken bones in the chest area, or the work I needed done to my right leg), I was 35% disabled. So, while I know that I could apply for disibality - I really don't want to have to do that until its my last resort. And, right now, it isnt... Hubby works for the state in law enforcement, so we get awesome insurance..and that helps a lot!
Facebook is what I check most of the time.....or we can catch up more on here too. And, Im on here at all diff. times of the day/night..you?
  • Wow I read your comment and you would have thought I wrote it.I also have ddd and fibro.Do you have weird burning, raw stinging, numbness kinda in your tailbone/butt?The only relief I get some what is electric blanket on my legs, ice pack on my butt, plus the meds of course.I live in the Poconos and boy do winters hurt.
I meant to ask. Does your back swell up?
  • Sorry it's taken me so long to finally get back to you!! I had a busy stint at work, and then this board fell by the wayside, as our fall hobbies picked up (apple picking, bonfires, relaxing rides on our trike...b/c it's no fun when sweat is pouring off of you as you try to ride!). :)So..I actually don't have as many issues w/ the tingling/pins and needles in my tailbone (just pain and aching), but mine travels down to my legs, feet and arms a lot. I can't remember if I already mentioned this, but I also have had surgery on my cervical spine (fused and more hardware on C5 thru C7). So, Im thinking that may be the reason why my pain is bypassing my tailbone and shooting right out of all of my limbs. I was just currently upped to 50 mg of Lyrica 2x/day and am on vicoden for breakthough pain. I did do PT to strengthen my muscles, but it got to the point where I kept going and only heard "yep..thats still right. See you on your next appt.". I do get acupunture (a big thing b/c I hate needles, but this is nothing like getting a shot/blood drawn, and I see a chiro). I promise to check back more often to talk to you again :)
