Right shoulder, Scapular, Neck discomfort/muscular inflammation

Hello to all,

I have had this problem for several years now. A bit of a background on myself: highly athletic, involved in power lifting, body building, and martial arts.

- Chronic tension head-aches
- Constant muscle contraction around my right Scapula/Shoulder complex
- A feeling of A-Symmetry between my right and left shoulders
- My right side responds differently to exercises like rows, chin-ups, or twists
- Pins and needles in my right elbow
- Sometimes after training sessions I will feel numbing down my whole arm

This issue started about 10 years ago (when I was 17) but, at that time, the discomfort was so mild I couldn't tell if there was anything wrong. As time has passed, and I have involved myself in sports, and lifting, at a higher level I have noticed it getting worse and worse. This week I will go see a joint and never specialist.... I have a feeling that the effected vertebrae are probably the C6, 7, 8 joints,,,,,

My Question is: Do Nerve Blocks act as permanent relief ? Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome!

I personally have never tried nerve blocks in the neck, but I have in the lumbar---they did not help me. However, from what I have read, mostly on here, they may or may not help you as everyone responds differently. I have been around the block a few times, and may I suggest seeing a neurosurgeon in addition to the specialist youre going to see? I'm just suggesting......it's good to have more than one set of eyes on this. Just sayin'......

    Good luck!
  • I hope you find some good information on the site. I have had epidural shots and nerve blocks in my neck. They worked fairly well for a number of years. They stopped working. I had an ACDF 4 level (C3-7) 5 weeks ago.

I think once you find out what your issues are, you should ask about your workout regimen. Being fit as you must be as a plus, but you don't want to do damage.

    Take care,

  • Hey ! I was extremely big into weight lifting. i spent many hours a day at the gym. And even as a woman I was into heavy lifting. I was haveing some of the same symptoms as you. it has now gotten a lot worse and i can no longer work out at all. many a day I am bed ridden. I am 27 yrs old . And I reading your post I think you are about the same age. I recommand you get an MRI. Any nerve impingment you may have will get a lot worse with out the proper treatment. I dont think pain managment is where you need to be. You may need a nerve medicine to help with the pain. I have a herniated disk in my neck and it is pinching a nerve. I am on 2700 mgs a day of nuerotin (gabapentin). they use it for epileptics. It works amazing. I couldnt get threw the day with out it. Let me know what you think!
