Post fusion 5/6-6/7 about 17 weeks and after my shoulder/L arm/ L elbow and wrist pain increased significantly and has remained. A deltoid muscle pain had been with me previously / intermittently / x 11 years. But, this is now ongoing. I use TENS and have had PT/OT post op spine. Saw 2 shoulder surgeons with differing opinions. #1. Steroid injection - negative help. #2. Maracaine injection to see if it would help the shoulder pain to assist the doc in determining a case for surgery. The x=rays show a growth off of the acromium hitting the rotator cuff, but no tear can be seen - MRI shows a cyst, narrowing and a bend to the acromium decreasing the size of perhaps a space joint?? Well, the problem is pain management and a decision to get on track with a doctor who can help with relieving the pain since the shoulder injection did not do that. Here's an odd question - Why did the Marcaine injection add excessive pain for 48 hours and mostly based in my deltoid (anterior) area? Is it because of added pressure. Also more painful was my entire L arm, down through the wrist. I'm trying to take care of the pain myself now with some Neurontin, TENS and wearing a sling. Not too much better with these options. Does anyone know about an increased pain with Marcaine injections into the shoulder that would increase other areas of pain? The on-call doctor did not have a clue ... and my doc will be out of town now.... He's the shoulder specialist for the medical group. Thanks much. New to group, hope my ideas/questions are not overwhelming....
