i have a 3cm extrusion at l5-s1 and a bulge at l4-l5 got my 2nd esi yesterday, and pain doc said he spoke to my potential (if necessary after 3rd injection) spinal surgeon. surgeon mentioned possible fusion of this area. i was doing some online research and it seems that a fusion for the lumbar region is not recommended due to the lack of movement in this area of the spine. i was hoping for discectomy at the worst...any insight on a lumbar fusion? hoping the injections work alone, but as ive learned lately, hope for the best but expect the worst:( i appreciate any and all input.
