I am very new to this forum so will start from the beginning.
I am 31 years old and have had degenerative disc disease for nearly 20 years. I started getting back pain at age 11, I had a double discectomy in 2000 and then a discectomy and decompression of l5/s1 suffering from cauda equina 6 years ago. I have lost most of the sensation in my right foot, partial numbness in my thigh and calf.
Despite this, i was managing well, with steroid injections up until a few months ago.
The pain in my right leg at the moment is unbeatable. I walk my 4 mile commute to work and have slowly found the right leg is dragging and unstable. Back pain is there although nothing compared to the leg.
Codeine and Naproxen is having no effect.
Scan shows 3 prolapsed discs (the partial bits from previous surgery left over).
I am desperate for something. I've seen a surgeon and tried one last lot of root never block and facet joint injections 2 weeks ago with no benefit
I really do not want 3 levels of spinal fusion. I really want the 3 discs replaced if possible but having heard of anyone having is before.
Can anyone help or advise. I'm at my wits end!
I have had to cancel my gym membership and finding every day a struggle.
Seeing a surgeon on Monday but he isn't one who is keen on TDR.
