It has been 2 weeks and 3 days since my ACDF surgery with autograft and I feel so much better! My original arm pain that I lived with for 3 years is nearly gone and my surgical pain is now a 4 woth very little pain medication. I wanted to share some information from my journey to help make this a little less scary for some.
The day of surgery was a blur and by that night I was feeling pretty good after a dose of morphine. I had my family bring me some dinner as I had no food restrictions. I suggest starting woth soft food as I felt every last bit of it going down my throat and it was difficult to swallow. After everyone left the hospital I started to feel really nauseous and the whole night was sick on and off and got very little sleep.. I was scared.
The next day someone from pt came in and it was time to get out of bed. They had taken a bone graft from my hip for the procedure and I was surprised how much it affected my ability to walk! It was like learning to walk all over again!
I went to my post op appointment the other day and it was great getting out of the house but I was sooooo tired when I got back. They took the rest of the tape off of my incisions and I've been really emotional about the scars that this surgery has left. Please let me know of any success stories anyone has had with their scars.
Overall I am thrilled that my pain is getting better everyday and there is light at the end of the tunnel... I'm 42 and have a lot of life left in me and look forward to getting back to it... Thanks for listening!
