I'm a 47yo male that is a Industrial Electrician and have a Fusion in the neck from a herniated disc and three L5 S1 microdiscectomies from herniation's. I am on week 10 after 3rd L5S1. This one was the worse. Butt pain Sciatica and leg and foot pain and couldn't walk or move or lay for two days. I also have a herniation at L4L5 and disc degenerative disease(like us all) and several bulged ones. I'm fixing to run out of my 12week fmla. I have pain and stiffness around muscles near incision and occasional light pains down the leg and calf but biggest thing is stiffness in mornings or after getting up from sitting. My foot and calf is still numb. Walking a mile a day and that's all I can do. I'm scared to return to work but have no choice. I don't know in NC if the companies 12 wk fmla runs annually or fiscally. I go to the Neurosurgeon Thursday and am planning to return to work Monday after if he lets me. 12hr shifts on concrete is going to be tough. I take pain meds as needed for neck pain (severe arthritis from cracking for 30 yrs and the herniation and fusion) and for severe arthritis all over and for my back as needed. I was told I need a fusion at L5S1 next time. I'm sure there will be a next time. I just hope I can last a while to pay some bills.
good luck to all!
Ill be reading stories and sharing mine. Ask any ?s I've been through many many therapies and shots.

I had my 2nd microD, and also must return to work tomorrow. I'm a little scared to say the least. The mornings are the worst like you describe. Incredibly sore and stiff. It's hard to get out of bed, even-though walking and moving around will help with the stiffness.
I'm doing a mile a day like you, sometimes more if i can handle it. I'm supposed to start PT next week, but I'm afraid, and don't think I'm ready.
I'm new to the forums here, but its slightly comforting knowing that I'm not alone in all of this.

Thanks for sharing your story, Captain.
