Hi. I'm new to posting to the forum but have read many informative and helpful posts. Many thanks to the knowledgeable members of spine-health.
I had an L4/L5 right side microdiscectomy on Feb. 10, 2014. So I'm about 3.5 weeks post-op.
I was doing okay increasing my walking distance each day but was only up to about 1/2 mile a few times a day last week. On Sunday I went for a drive and ended up with increased numbness in my right lower leg and foot. I called my surgeons office that they said I probably overdid it and that I need to rest for at least a couple days. Only small trips to the bathroom and kitchen like during the first week.
My surgeon also stated not to walk through any discomfort. Meaning any back, buttock, or leg pain. But I feel I almost always have some sort of twinge or pain. I feel like I will never get my distance up if I don't push at least a little.
Do other microdiscectomy post-op patients here walk through the pain? Or do you stop at the first sign of pain?
