Pain control after surgery if oral narcotics cause gastritis

I'm scheduled to have a posterior and anterior spinal fusion of l3-s1 on February 2. Up until this time I've tried to avoid narcotics for my pain because every time I take them I end up with terrible gastritis and Gerd. This leaves me really concerned about how I'm going to manage after my surgery. Of course I plan to talk to my doctors about this but I'm concerned that they won't understand how difficult this is for me. When it flares up, I'm really unable to eat anything really. What makes this worse is laying down and I'm guessing that I will be in that position for quite a bit in the first week or so.

Any ideas?

PS I've been learning how to do mindfulness meditation and it's been a real help manage my anxiety about the surgery. I just thought I'd mention that in case anyone else was interested.

Thanks a lot!
