Bulges after ACDF

Hi, I have had ACDF surgery at C6/7 in 2000. I Have now got further bulges at this level. Can anyone tell me how this can happen again after surgery to fix this problem.

That would be impossible as an ACDF removes the disc and fuses the bones together. Now you may would have bulges at other levels..that is possible and is actually pretty common. Sorry you are having trouble again. Once you fuse a level then it puts the burden on the levels above it or below it to carry the burden per se. Do some.research and it might make better sense than what I've mentioned.
  • Hello. At what level are the bulges and how where these found (XRAY, MRI, etc). I had ACDF C5-C7 in March but have been having an increase in neck pain. I had 2 sets of Xrays, 1 was interpreted as Pseudoarthritis / failed fusion. 2nd was interpreted as Stage 2 Spondylolisthesis at C3-C5 & C7-T1. Also the xray report said there was a "bulge" at the fusion site and the "bone graft placement appears to be positioned in the ventral portion of the disc space". The doctor did not think this was significant for the pain I am having.
    Thank You
