Hi there, first of all thank you to everyone that has posted their experiences on here. It has been so helpful to me.
I'm a 43yr old female, who has gone from being very active, running marathons and competing in ironman triathlons to being a shadow of my former self.
I haven't been in an accident but have been injured from doing a repetitive job that has put my spine under stress on a daily basis. From July 2015 I have been unable to carry on with normal life due to the pain and discomfort.
I suffer from 'bulging discs' at c5-6 and c7-8. I have pain across my scapula and clavicle constantly, mainly caused by muscle tension as a result of the disc injury. I'm also suffering from radiculopathy on my left side. Which has resulted in loss of strength in my left hand.
On the plus side, I have a fabulous PT, who through sport, I have been with for 3 years. She is incredible supportive and positive, which I definitely need some days.
My doctor is also very supportive too. His intial response was to refer me straight to the neurologist but my PT believes she can 'fix' me through therapy, between them they have come up with a recovery plan.
Medication I have been taking are Zapain and Robaxin. This week I have also started Gabapentin as I have had a flare up from 'doing to much'
Throughout all of this I have tried to stay working, even if it has been on 'light duties'. Unfortunately, I am in a job that is very physical and it is easy to slip back to full working duties. This has caused the flare up, it's my own fault. I forget my limitations sometimes and hanker after the 'old me'. I am now signed off as 'sick' by my G.P. Who knows what the future holds, im trying to stay positive, maybe one day soon I will wake up pain free.
