successful L5/S1 disc replacements?

I have a more detailed post/conversation that details my injury in March 2014, but the short of it had me choosing the least invasive option of 3 different recommendations for surgery - a discectomy at L5/S1 (my other options were disc replacement in Germany with a $50,000 price tag or spinal fusion in Brandon, MB Canada, covered by Medicare).
I made it almost a year into recovery from the discectomy, closely following the professionals' recommendations for rehabilitation, when scar tissue interfered enough to cause re-herniation in November 2015. I am now waiting to consult with my surgeon , which in my neck of the woods could be months. I just want to know what the success-rate is for disc replacements at this joint. The surgeon who recommended spinal fusion said disc replacement would not work well for me, wondering if this was case-specific or for L5/S1 in general.
