Poem - My Back is like a Teenager!

Hopefully, to cheer you up and make you smile.

My Back is like a Teenager!

My husband, a long time ago, was told
“You have the spine of a 21 year old”
It was very encouraging news for his ears
(He’d passed that age by many years!
In fact his real age was almost double)
“It must be your muscles causing the trouble”

This caused some reflection on the age of mine
I think I must have a sixteen year old spine!
Not that it’s supple and free from pain,
AARGH! There’s a ‘zap’ of sciatica again!
No, the reason that is the age that I chose,
Are all the frustrations, the problems and woes

It seems to be incredibly lazy
Restricting my movement and driving me crazy
Mornings are when it is at its worst
Stopping me moving without lying down first
Just when I think I’m ready to go
My back gets stroppy, with a defiant “No!”

It’s uncooperative, and won’t do what I’d like
It doesn’t enjoy exercise or even a hike
It wants to control me, it thinks it knows best
When I want to get moving, my back wants to rest
I’ve tried listening to it, but my back isn’t talking
It only speaks up when I want to go walking!

I’m following instructions and taking advice
Drinking water, exercising, treating with ice,
Improving my diet, reading all I can find
Good fats and bad fats, I’m improving my mind
Essential Fatty Acids, Omega 6 and Omega 3
Changing my food, to get all that I need

I’ll stretch and I’ll strengthen my muscles each day
‘til core stability returns in MF and TA
With Side Plank, Leg Up, Superman and Mad Cat
Cobra, Sling Stretch and Nerve Flossing – imagine that!
My muscles are growing, getting stronger and stronger
I’ll keep exercising ‘til I’m in pain no longer

With trips to the Chiro to get activated
I will get control as I’m de-subluxated
With a positive attitude, doing as I’m told
I’ll keep myself active, until I grow old
With my nerve flow restored, my muscles retrained
Vitality returned and full movement regained

I’ll be kind to my back, treat it as a friend
Do all that I can to help it to mend
We must work together, we cannot be parted
It may take some time, I won’t get downhearted
We’ll grow old together, my teenager and me
I’ll get my life back, just you wait and see!
