2 days Post OP ACCF- Strange Bruising/ Fever

greetings..I survived my ACCF..Was in and out in 36 hours and it is my second night at home..Given that I had major surgery I'm not doing too badly except for the sore swallowing and pain in neck and upper back.I do have 2 issues that I will call my doc about tomorrow but wanted to know if you had any thoughts..I just notice today that I have a swelling behind my right ear around the mastoid area..it is yellow purple black and blue..Could this be from some type or traction or head gear they used from the surgery, or could it be some weird abscess? I also have had a low grade fever since i got home around 100.2 yesterday and 99.8 today...I called the nurse yesterday and she said it was not uncommon to have low grade fevers for the first few days...I've taken tylenol and that has controlled it...I just hope the 2 are not connected..Let me know if anyone has any thoughts...Thanks...Amy

Fever

While I'm not a doctor I was told that any fever after surgery was cause for alarm. I would call the doc as soon as possible and get back in to see him to check you out, especially with the additional problem of the bruising.

Good luck to you,
Griff

Back from Doc

I saw my primary care doc and he seems to think the bruising behind the ear was probably from the headgear used during the surgery,(He has seen weird bruising after surgery, wonder what they do:) )...I have not had a fever yet today, but he said for the first couple of days a low grade fever is common,,If tylenol does not take care of the fever and the fever rises above 101, then it could be a sign of infection and to get in ASAP...all and all not feeling too badly post 3 days surgery..very tired, manageable pain and trouble swallowing...thanks for your post...Amy
