Living with pain

Hi! I've had a rough 6 months of sciatica pain from herniated discs. Dr ordered MRI and he said I have a small herniation at L4 L5 and a broad based herniation at L5 S1. Both are protruding out left side causing constant pain in butt, hip, and thigh and sometimes pains in calf and foot. I'm on Gabapentin for nerve pain, but it doesn't help much. I've been through PT last year for back pains and tried to do the excersises they showed me to strengthen my back, but it causes a lot of pain. I had 1 epidural steroid injection, and it did nothing but make me sick for a few days. I was going to have microdiscetmomy, but my work insurance is causing problems so I can't have the surgery. My back Dr says surgery was last option and doesn't know what else to do. So now I have to live with pain and hope it gets better. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with pain? Or how long it might take to heal?
