LIFE AFTER C1/C2 FUSION

Good morning from East London South Africa. I am trying to connect with other people who have had C1/C2 fixation/fusion but more specifically 15 months and onwards. I had my surgery Nov 2016 and I am struggling terribly notwithstanding fact that my Neuro Surgeon is satisfied with fusion etc A friend who is an orthopedic specialist also looked at MRI and CAT scans and he says same.

I just want to try and determine how others are experiencing life having had this surgery. I am 55, very active(running/walking) and run my own business. I constantly struggle with severe spasms pain and discomfort. I was told it is fine to run again. I have found with or without it has not made much of a difference but I do run with my soft collar. Now and again max half marathon. But mostly 5 to 6 kms 3 times a week.

  • Hi Sonnette

    Welcome to Spine-health

Surgery can fix the problem but unfortunately it doesn't always leave us pain free.  I have had 3 lumbar surgeries and also being investigated for ongoing issues with my C4/5 & 5/6.  My mixed pain from these two sites in the day can be extremely challenging, so you have my sympathy and understanding.

You may be able to find members that posted 15 months ago in the old Surgery Buddies groups under Forum Topics.  Once you have found that information, you could send them a private message.  Not all members are active on the forum regularly so they may missed your request.  This could be a way of starting to find other members with these issues.

You can also find older posts by searching for your surgery type in the search box at the top of the page.  Just scroll down and find the Spine-health entries and link in.  Again this may lead you to members that are not active but it may be helpful in finding others experiences of this surgery while you wait for replies.

I have added two links below to help new members with information and these also contain the forum rules.  There is lots of material to research on Spine-health that will give you the power of knowledge.

    Welcome to Spine Health
