Workers Comp Are they going to deny my spinal fusion!?

  • I saw my orthopedic surgeon yesterday. He scheduled my fusion for June 27! He said it really cannot wait. During the regular tests in the office my right leg reflexes were just as nonexistent as my left. He thinks physical therapy was the culprit and told me to stop going.

Now I just have to hope workers comp doesn’t try to deny the surgery. I spoke to my lawyer and he said if they straight out just deny the surgery or claim it preexisting than I can use my own insurance and we can just add it to the court claim. Such a headache!

  • Just wanted to update anyone that might read this or be in a similar situation. I received a call from my surgeons office this morning.... I got approved for my surgery one week from today! If I could physically jump up and down I would.

Workers Comp originally denied the surgery however after my doctor spoke to my nurse case manager and explained my issues she issued the approval for surgery, up to 5 day hospital stay and all appliances (walker, wheelchair, cane) I may need to aid in my recovery.

I know the healing will be difficult however after my laminectomy/ discectomy I felt great. It was a successful surgery and I am hopeful this fusion will have the same results.
