HemiLaminectomy surgery l4 l5

Numbness both legs and feet toes and genitals and anal area. 2 1/2 months post surgery. Doctors nurses Therapists say nerves grow back as slow as hair. "It takes time, be patient." I just need to know does the feeling ever come back? Everyone is different, I understand. Gabapentin works to calm nerve pain,  (not numbness. ) please help anybody....sincerly...feltlessness in distress .
