Hospital bed vs own bed...thoughts?

  • Thank you! Did you do any resting/"hanging" out in bed once home from the hospital? Were you able/allowed to sit straight up at all after surgery?

  • I should have added my wife spoiled me/us with a king split adjustable memory foam bed that made it very easy to recover, God bless her.  It wouldn’t have fit in the living room but worked in the bedroom and she sleeps almost as well as I do these days.

  • My post op instructions were no more than 20 minutes at any one time in a vertical position. That means sitting, standing, walking or any combination of those three. But also to walk as much as possible. So I would walk for 5 - 10 minutes, then sit for about 10 minutes, then lay down for 30 - 45 minutes. The recliner was not a good option for me. It felt like it put a lot of stress on my lower back to be in a semi up right position.  I laid on my side with a pillow between my knees or on my back with pillows under my knees. When sitting, I sat as upright as possible. I did not hang out in bed, stayed on the sofa mostly.

  • Thank you for the info...I have a bed and recliner I will be able to alternate between. I have to get a pillow for between my knees.
