Please help, my L2 and L3 are fractured. I’m in so much pain.

I’m a 36 year old female who recently found out I fractured my L2 and L3 vertebrae. All I did was sit down to pee and I heard this crunching sound. A few days later my lower back started hurting so I quickly made a drs appoint. They sent me for an X-ray and it came back that I fractured both vertebrae straight through the side plates. Dr called it a Non displaced fracture. She sent me for a bone density scan thinking that maybe I was starting to have weakening bones due to the start of Osteoporosis, but tests came back fine. NO osteoporosis.  Dr is baffled. She is sending me to an orthopedic specialist. How ever it’s a while till I can be seen. The pain has gotten so bad, the area where it’s broke feels bruised to the touch and aches. On both sides of my back I have this horrible pinching pain, and my whole tailbone burns so bad and also has pinching type pain. I think something else is wrong, but I don’t know what. I’ve never had back pain ever before. Please if anyone could help me figure out what’s going I’d greatly appreciate it. Does anyone know what the ortho dr will do?

  • Ebnrjn,

    Welcome to Spine-Health

Learn how to use Spine-Health - take the System Tutorial

To begin with Welcome to Spine-Health truly the best site on the web! I hate to hear about the pain to begin with. To begin with, Did your MD give you any pain meds to hold you over until your seen? If not I would call your MD back and request medications. Until then OTC and ice / heat and most importantly rest! How this happened is anyone’s guess. It’s not unusual for spinal injuries to occur days, weeks or even months prior to the pain. The good news is that they are non displaced! Which means they are still where they should be. Your orthopedic surgeon to begin with will probably order a MRI and then decide a treatment plan. This does not mean that it will go to surgery. Your orthopedic might-try a more conservative treatment which there are several. The only major thing I would add is please take it completely easy as not to further injure it. Please keep us posted. We’re here for you if you have other concerns or questions.....David
