I would like to know how long after surgery when you can get up and walk around . my mother that is going to have the surgery is 65 and she was just wondering how long before she could get around.

  • First of all Welcome to Spine Health.

Unfortunately, there is just too little information for any of us to try and guess at an estimate for your mother. Let us know if this is a laminectomy, discectomy, fusion, etc the docs plan on doing.

While everyone is different in responding to surgery and overall healing, there is no way any of us can answer positively, but we can give you some ideas.

Also, none of us are doctors nor are we offering medical advice; rather we will offer our opinions and advice for your consideration.

    Best of wishes, and Welcome,

  • has anyone ever had surgery on spinal stenosis and how did it go and how long did it take for you to recover and if it was painful. please I would really like to know.

  • Selene,
Can you give more info please as to what kind of surgery? Is she having a laminectomy, discectomy, fusion, or what? The other poster has offered to respond if you could give more info.
  • I am a 53 year old male with spinal stenosis at L3L4.My first opinon was to get x stops my second opinon was to get direct lateral interbody fusion with pedicle screw fixiation.I would like to hear how other people made out with these procedures.
  • Hi KDP! Just thought I'd mention that you might want to start your own post so others can spot it easier. This one is getting older.

Good luck with your stenosis issues. I have it too and have avoided surgery so far.
