I think I just posted in the wrong place so I don't think I will get an answer. I had the MRI last night and called my docs office to make and appt. I was told I could see a different doc on Monday but that my doc is booked until November. I have been in severe pain for a couple weeks and been leaving messages for her and her nurses for a week and a half. I know this other doc won't do anything because they don't change other docs orders. So I will be in the same situation as I am now. I called back and left another message for my doc, and the receptionist was so snotty. I feel like I am a big joke and nuisance to them and I don't know if they have even given her the messages. I am really hoping this is a misunderstanding, because I have been completely open to everything she has suggested trying for months, and now that the pain has become unbearable, I have been bugging them just to talk to her. What should I do? I don't even know how to get a new dr. When I was looking for one for my dad, I kept hearing that no one wants to take on chronic pain patients. HELP!

  • I know how you feel and it sucks not being able to get into your Dr.s for awhile. Here is what I would do. Go to the Apt. for Monday see the other Dr. just to go over your MRI and talk it might help to hear other advise from another Dr. But go ahead and schedule for November with your normal Dr. But I hope if there is a an urgent issue that you can get in sooner that Nov. Atleast you won't be left in the dark about what going on, or have to wait till Nov to hear your MRI results.

I hope you get pain free soon.

  • Hiya,
Welcome to Spine Health. >:D< Firstly you need tostay calm, otherwise your pain will increase. Are you in the states? If you are and you pay for treatment , and have paid for the MRI then you are entitled to the results. But if you are in england you will have to go through a long process of going through it all again. Im sorry i couldnt be more help. Let us know how you get on!

  • I do plan to go to the appt. I just am so frustrated that this doc won't do anything either and I cannot have this level of pain until November. I am struggling with taking care of my kids and keeping up with the house because I just want to lay down all the time. The urgent care doc put me on Tramadol which is not helping (it's better than nothing) and I am all out of my regular meds because it got so bad. I wouldn't dare call them in early, now I am afraid she won't refill them at all, since she is avoiding me. I feel there is no end in sight...
  • I am trying not to freak out. I am in Washington State and I will be going for my results. I guess I will just hope for the best and that they will see that something else is really wrong...Thanks for your support!!
  • I just looked at the website for my docs office (it is a resident program as well) and found out that I will be seeing a resident on Monday. A second year resident. They couldn't give me someone who has a little more experience? He may be wonderful, compassionate, knowledgeable, what have you, but I would be a little happier with a faculty member.

  • If you get worse in between your appt. Monday and the one in November, go to the ER. Then you can tell that snotty receptionist that you went to the ER, and they told you that you have to follow up in however number of days. They can not ignore that. You will get faster results and get taken care of sooner. It has worked for me years back. Even if they were booked, they found a way to fit me in.

It's no fun to be waiting around in pain. That happened to me when I hurt my back. I waited and waited for my PCP to get me an MRI and a referral to a back specialist for 7 weeks. He was forced to give me Percocets and muscle relaxers. Then he got weary of that and tried to get me into pain mgt without knowing what the problem was. I was turned down for insurance reasons.
I took control and found a spine doc in the phone book, made an appt, then called the PCP and told them to send my records over there. I got to see the spine doc, got an MRI the next day, and at the follow up appt. found out I had a herniated disc at L4-5. I had an ESI in a week and started therapy.
Sometimes you gotta take the bull by the horns. It's you the one in pain, not them, and they are in no hurry.
