  • :) hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. so sorry to hear you are suffering from infections. ~X( that is a big problem with going into the hospitol these days. you don't say how your recovery is going from the surgery itself? please make yourself at home and have a good look around the different forums. :? good luck to you. i hope you are feeling much better soon. Jenny :)

  • Welcome aboard!!!
  • Hi Jenny,

Well, my recovery is really not that great-it seems like I am hospitalized at least every couple weeks for either the infection and pain from the seroma (or both at the same time) I am not able to do much at all, and it's enough to drive me crazy waiting to feel better, and it's just not happening. My neurosurg. has basically written me off, he's the type if you question what he says he gets offended. Had I known this about him prior, I'd have found another surgeon!
So now I'm sleeping almost upright in a recliner chair as the large lump on the left side of my neck is so painful. I'm going to see my general practictioner, who is very nice, and concerned on Tuesday. My infection specialist told me at the beginning he was concerned about the infection either just sitting in the area of the hardware in my neck, or my body rejecting the metal alltogether. This has turned into a nightmare for me. I had this surgery because of two discs that popped out of my neck, now I wish I didn't have it.
Thank you so much for the warm welcome!!!

Thanks Frustrated for the welcome, I can say you have the perfect forum name!

  • Also, I'm sure many of you that had surgery had the steri-strips put on the incision after the surgery to help hold the incision together. My surgeon took off the strips on a Thursday afternoon, by the following Sunday morning my incision was opened up due to the infection. I would think he would have noticed that the incision was red, inflamed, etc.
Don't get me wrong--I love doctors, I have two great ones helping me, but the neurosurg. gets a grade of "F" for dealing with this post surgical problem. There was just no way to know prior to surgery I would encounter these issues.
  • :) that is one of the benefits of having the forum. =D> maybe someone will come by here before their surgery and find they need to ask some more important questions. maybe they haven't gotten a second opinion yet. :? maybe they haven't been through a series of conservative therapies. :? whatever it is, i hope we have saved someone from a bad surgical experience. you have your experiences to share here as well now. i do hope your seroma goes down and you start to feel better from that soon as well. Jenny :)
