Nerve neck pain, cant lay flat, please help very worried

Hey guys here is my story.
About one month ago I got some pain in my neck from lifting a box from the car. After about a week it disappeared thanks to some anti inflammatories. I went back to badminton and the next day was in extreme pain in my neck with a nerve pain down my arm. I had to take strong prescription pain killers to sleep as I couldn’t lie down. Over the last three weeks the pain and muscle spasms stopped but my index finger on my left hand went numb and I get pain down my arm when I lie back.
When I wake in the morning I have extreme pain down my arm, aching in the shoulder and a light tingling in my other arm and left leg, also i am light headed and week in the legs. There is a point on the back of my neck which is extremely painful to touch. Even a light brush with a finger causes pain. I can’t lie down and although the pain has gone the nerve pain hurts. I am resorting to sleeping upright!
I have had an x ray which was fine and am awaiting an mri scan. My concern is that i cam causing damage to myself by lying down. I am really concerned about this!

Any help appreciated

  • Did the Dr. mention anything about heat or ice to help? I would encourage you to ask your Dr. his opinion on treatment for this neck problem. Did you tell the Dr. about feeling light headed? I encourage you to get some medical advice for that if you didn't inform your Doctor. Take care. Charry

  • You have described exactly what happened to me minus the leg stuff. My legs havent bothered me at all through this, but laying down, pain in shoulder, tingles, numb left index finger, had all that! Go for your MRI, mine was painful just because I had to lay still but the MRI tech put a foam block under my head in such a position that the pain was tolerable, plus I was so frustrated I wanted to know what the deal was so I layed there and breathed through the pain ugh... Below my post shows why I was having so much trouble, your MRI will show why you are having it too. Get your results explained to you, ask questions, find out your options before you decide to get surgery or not. In my case I have decided against ACDF, worked with a chiro, doing weights now, have ZERO pain most of the time, little to no tingles and the numbness went away. How long will all this last for me? WHO KNOWS??? Frustrating stuff for sure!

  • Thanks guys for answering me. However my symptoms seem to be getting worse. Over the last few nights I have woken up in the morning with the usual left arm pain an also now my right arm is numb. It recovers as soon as i get up. I am writing now because tonight I just woke up with my right arm and both legs numb. I am really concerned now!
