Calcified disc - any information?

Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has had any diagnosis of "disc calcification"? History: 31 yr old female diagnosed with chronic disc herniations (L3-S1) in 2002 and the CT showed osteophyte formation on all discs. The MRI in 2008 did not show this. Microdiscectomy surgery on L5-S1 level this past October confirmed this disc was calcified.

I was wondering if anyone knows what is the significance of having 'calcified discs'? Is there further progression of disease to be concerned about? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • but I THINK that is when the disc dries up. Did you try checking conditions at the top of this page? There is lots of info there. Good luck to you.
