Scared for my father

My father is a 75 year old father who has had back pain for at least 40 years. He has had back surgeries to remove bone spurs off of his spine which seemed to help for a while (he was losing mobility in his legs and falling down all the time but started to walk better after the surgery). His condition seems to be worsening again though and he his thinking about spinal decompression. He is not financially able to retire yet and is hoping this will allow him to work a few more years. I don't know a lot about decompression, but fear it may increase the pain. Any advice is welcome.

  • Sorry, I don't know anything about decompression, but just wanted to welcome you to Spine-Health. Has he gone to a spine specialist recently? Did he have an MRI? I think it is great that you are looking out for your dad this way, and I wish you and him the best!

I'm sure someone will be by here soon with some info about decompression. Stay strong!
  • Welcome to spine-health...spinal decompression costs about $5,000.00.....

  • I am so sorry to hear that your dad is in pain. Has he consulted with any kind of doc about this? It is also sad that your dad must continue to work at his age. You are a good child to be researching and helping your dad like this. Did you try looking at the treatments tab at the top of this page? Good luck to you and please keep us posted.
  • :) hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. check the top of the forum under "Treatments" and look at the "back surgery" section. there is a good explanation of the surgery and might give you a better idea of what it is about. thank you for standing by your father in this difficult time. =D> he needs you now more than ever. :X surgery is not easy at any age and the older we get the more difficult it is. be sure and get more than one opinion if surgery is suggested. :? good luck! Jenny :)
