ESI didn't work, worse

So I had my first ever ESI about a week and a half ago, L5/S1 for sciatica. Going in, I was mostly numb in my lower leg and foot, with some patches of pain but the main problem is extreme weakness. Didn't see any relief after the first few days, and now, 10 days later, pain has increased all over, not just weakness and numbness. The pain has gotten worse, simply put. Is this just dumb bad luck or can an ESI have negative effects?

  • that it sometimes takes more than one to work. I had one in February that didn't work, and in the last month I have had 2 that didn't work. My pain management doc seems to think that I have too much scar tissue from the diskectomy that I had in Jan of 08, so it's blocking the steriod from getting to where it needs to be.

As far as the pain getting worse, I have not had that experience, but maybe some one else on here has.

Post this topic under "steriod injections". That is specifically for this type of question. :)
