I just had my hardware removed from L4-S1 fusion it feels great so far no pain. The screws were really hurting and poking me in the back. Anyways wondering how long I need to wear this soft brace. I have an appointment on tues but I just want to not wear it. How long did others wear there brace? I feel like I can do anything but how long do you have to be careful? dr. said no restrictions except do not lift over 40lbs rest of life. is my incision healed enough at this point to not wear this annoying brace?

  • that if the doctor told you to wear the brace, you should wear it. I didn't have one at all with my fusion surgery, but then again, I had enough hardware to hold a lot of stuff together. Perhaps the doc is concerned about some possible instability due to the shaking and breaking they had to do to get the hardware out. I wouldn't take any chances.

    3 level spinal fusion, L3/4, L4/5, L5/S1, November 2008. Stiff, but I can walk.
