I've been advised to get this to help smooth out my scar as its a liitle tight on my back ! Does anyone know what it is ? I know bio oil is no good , I have asked at the pharmacy but they wasn't sure either ! I'm in the uk so need to get it here. Thanks x

  • Try going on Ebay or Amazon. Vitamin E is a very good thing for healing the skin. Try online vitamin stores. It wont hurt anything if you scar is healed. I have found that Aloe Vera Gel is very good for healing also. No additives, just straight gel.. Good Luck.
  • Janie,

When I had my C-Spine surgery, my incision was small little less than 2" and once it was healing, no redness going, and skin tone even, I started applying Vit. E Oil I got at a vitamin store at the mall.

I think you want to be sure you get a purified level of ingredients in the creams or oils, no irritants...hoping more people on forum can offer a particular brand type for you!

At the time Vit. E Oil good brand my massage therapist recommended purified form no additives and I used to smooth out the incision area. Did very well, but then my incision was small.

    Hope this helps some.

  • Interesting that you say that Bio-Oil is no good.
    Where did you hear that?
That is what I have been using and haven't had any trouble with it, in fact it has done a good job helping my scar to settle down.

I also had a very tight scar that caused a burning pain when I bent forward. I think mine was made worse by an infection that I had at the top couple of inches of my incision. Also the scar there had a step in it where the wound hadn't drawn together properly and also had to be cauterised because it was growing overgranulation tissue.

Now, after nearly 9 months, the scar is fading nicely and the area where the step was, is nearly flat.

I have also had dry skin and itching over the scar, which the bio-Oil helps.

I think there are various places that you can get Vitamin E cream; on-line or health food shops would be a good starting place.

I hope that you get your scar comfortable soon. Let us know what you use. :-)

  • I was told bio oil wasn't as pure and had additives in it. I have that step bit too so need to get that down. Thanks for all your replies so far xx
  • I used Bio Oil and it was great. My scar is so fine and can hardly be seen. Would be good to use some special cream to help with the healing.
