  • Probably caused by gabapentin a medicine prescribed to me post op due to nerve pain on r leg. I'm going to tell them I want to stop the med to see. I know this med cant just be stoped it must be tapered down. The swelling in ankles and feet is causing me more discomfort than anything else! Talk to your docs!!

  • Whatever the cause (I have swelling of my hands and feet, esp left, etc), the pain for me at least, is lessened wehn I eat a plant-based diet, no white sugar white flour or processed food, lots of whole grains, fruit and veggies: basically an anti-inflammatory diet. And inasmuch as I adhere to it my pain is reduced.
Just a thought, while you and your dr's figure it all out, to maybe lessen the pain in a way that wont hurt anything (except any desire to drown your sorrows in a pan of brownies :) ... though I've tried making a whole grain, coconut sugar sweetened brownie... still working on that recipe...lol
Good luck in your quest for healing. :)

    Best of healing,

    D
I had ALif surgery Oct 2012 when I came out of surgery my legs were swollen came to find out my iliac was cut and had collapsed nothing but problems every since that day.
  • at my 30 months assessment I pushed my consultant for answers regard the aforementioned problems and after a 50 minute consultation he has diagnosed me with long standing arachnoiditis and CES due to previous poor surgical technique if you had never pain before your ALIF its more than likely you will always have it as the nerves have been irreparably damaged do you genitals go numb if you sit on a typical dining room chair the kind of thing you would have a eating table] ? do you legs also go numb or have pins and needles ? this is a sign off CES if you have permanent burning lower back pain and are unable to tolerate things on your legs like clothing or even bed sheets that could be arachnoiditis you may be lucky ..its early days yet and ALIF is very hard and long to recover from think in years not months ,if you're worried see your consultant .and if the pain is so bad maybe a trip to your doctors for a painkillers review .good luck I am now 18 years in pain and have just been discharged as there is no treatment left for me now just drugs

  • I'm so sorry Tony. They must be the most terrible words to hear...there's nothing left to try. Ugh!! I know I'm a hapless optimist but I have to believe that there might be something, one day...I live in hope. ;-)

Even with your latest surgery you were here helping people, sharing your knowledge & life experience. You have a wonderful wife & a beautiful daughter. There will always be Floyd! Despite everything you still count your blessings. You're an inspiration & a kind shoulder to cry on. Stay strong & SHINE!!

  • I had breast cancer 5 yrs and 3 months ago after the surgery which they removed my left lympth node in my arm pit I started to swell .Yep had the blood clot test none.both legs, ankles and feet swell so bad the veins pop in my lower legs .Doc says it was not surgery but I did not have it before. I am taking no meds .I have high blood pressure and can not take the meds it makes me drunk and tired to the point I can not do anything .Tried 5 kinds and doc says there is nothing left to try . Legs go down some when i sleep at night but never all the way .I also have a back problem which I am not having surgery to fix. Elavating my legs and ice packs helps but does not cure the problem .I also drink a lot of water the more i drink the more I swell .I scratched my lower leg today and clear jelly like oozed out never have I had that .Is there anything I can do ?
