please help with my scs

hi everybody.

i had a medtronic scs implanted 2 weeks ago yesterday for pain in my left leg and foot.

since it has been implanted i have been really sick (flu like symptoms) my stimulator doesnt seem to be working now i get no sensation with it turned upto 10.5 had a x ray and the specialist said everything is fine, they tried to re programme it but still wouldnt work...
they say they wont re operate as the x ray is fine but it feels like i have a device in me for nothing now!

anybody advise what i can do?

  • You need to talk to the Doctor again and ask what you are supposed to do if you don't feel any stimulation. It might be that something is broken with the unit. Have they run any diagnostics? Did it work for you during the trial? Did it work right after they implanted it? If so, you need to insist that your doctor do something to help. If they are still unresponsive, try contacting your insurance company to see if they can help resolve the situation, after all they paid the majority of the bill.

Let us know how you make out.

Medtronics should have ran a test on the unit at implant time and then when you went in for programing.
Did they say the unit was working right? This is where I would start and make sure the unit and leads are good.
I have talked to others that didn't get anything out of it for several weeks after surgery. Did they ask you in the OR if you felt any sensation. What did medtronic rep say when they did the programing. Another idea would be to try another medtronic rep for a reprograming. I had two that could not get my feet covered but a third one did very easy. Leads may be in the wrong place or may have even migrated. I would stay on the surgeon who implanted it as it's his problem. Another question is did the trial test give you coverage.
A lot of questions but just start working on eliminating problems. It is possible the unit is even bad which would be minor surgery to replace if that's the case.

Wish I had a good answer for you

  • I forgot to mention anything when you said you felt like you had the flu.
Watch to make sure you don't have a infection as that could be a real issue
at this time. Have you heeled from the surgery or have any temp?

    Good Luck
  • they have said the box is fine, blood results came back negative. Green stuff leaking from the wound yet they insist i have no infection?
stimulation was working perfect for 2 days, programmed at 6.70 anything above i got twitches... i can now turn it upto 10.50 and dont feel a thing, they still insist to keep it in as it could start to work! i cant stress enough to them that it doesnt work and ive told them i no my body better than they do.

You need to heal up1 st and then worry about figuring out why unit dont work, green stuff coming out= infection and tell the idiots put you on antibiotics or you will own the hospital and the dr.s home and mercedes if they overlook a simple infection that can be treated and be gone in 7 days,

You might have a bad lead they can replace after you healed up and no green stuff coming out of your body any longer if you still alive from the infection, Worry about 1 thing at a time, infection can be serious so work on that for now to resolve it,

Tell them you have 1 of the leads sticking out of your butt hole, That will get there attention, Good luck,

  • My dad always told me that I was the only person who knew what it was to "be me" and I was the only person who could really stand up for "me" in times of trouble. There is nothing, I repeat, nothing normal with green stuff coming out of your body - noses and surgical sites. I have found Medtronics to be very responsive. There is a "patient services" phone number on the back of a card I have for one of my reps.....perhaps calling it would begin to get you the help you need - 1-800-510-6735.

And don't let your doctor off the hook. He is the surgeon, after all. He is basically the "team leader." Keep up posted and I am keeping you in my prayers. Kathy

TELL THEM YOU NEED HELP! They will send you another rep. I have had 4 and they each have their level of expertise. Any one of them will call me right back and they all know the doctors involved. But be FIRM.
  • The purpose of this article is to emphasize that there are many spinal conditions that may cause leg pain, foot pain, and other lower extremity symptoms. Most successful treatments are based upon having an accurate anatomic diagnosis for the basis of a specific pain syndrome. Spine care professionals are particularly well suited to oversee the diagnosis and treatment of these situations
