Foot Pain from L5 Nerve Damage

I have suffered from chronic back pain and permanent nerve damage since 2001. My injuries originated from being kicked by a horse at age 15 and then a very hard fall while ice skating at age 26 that put me out of commission for a while. In 2001, my knees buckled and I fell to the floor from the spasms. I had considerable nerve damage in my left and right feet. Some of the nerve damage healed, some didn't! Since then, I walk with a clomp in my left foot along with numbness in some of my toes and top of my left foot. There is always that occasional NERVE PAIN! This last month I have been dealing with new pain on the top of my left foot at the base of my three small toes. This pain occurs only when I am wearing shoes. My toes are pushing up against the top of my shoe, It feels like my toes are being rubbed raw, but there is not much redness or any tender skin.

Last Sunday I had to remove my cleats in the second have of my third U14 game. I could no longer run with my shoes on. Way too much pain. During this same time, my lower back has been the worst since just before my endoscopic discectomy in 2007.
Oh, I've also been weening off my Norco - 6-8/day for the last week!
Anybody have any of this?

  • I understand the pain on the tops of the feet. Mine feels like I have dropped something on them, especially my left one and by the way you describe your location, mine is in the same general area. When mine first started hurting this bad I had my wife examine my foot to see if it was bruised (which it wasn't). It also hurts for me to wear shoes and I walk with a limp on my left foot.
I have numbness in both of my feet. My right foot from the ankle to the tip of the big toe is completely numb (no feeling what-so-ever). My left foot is the same way, just not as far up my foot. The numbness stops before it gets to the ankle.
