bracing for compression fracture after 6 weeks

Hi everyone. Sorry to say, I suffered another accident on a recent Cruise. We were in choppy waters. I was in the bathroom and the next thing I knew I had been knocked onto my buttocks. I went to the ships infirmary. They xrayed my back and said nothing broken. Gave me two shots in the bum; one for inflammation and one for pain. I was sent off with anti inflamatory and codene for pain. I had ten more days at sea, with at least 5 more tours on land. I popped 1/2 of codene each day and mustered through the rest of the trip. We also had 3 days on land in a hotel before flight home.

By the time I had an MRI 6 weeks had lapsed and MRI show to moderate to severe compression fractures of T12 and L2. Now after 6 weeks, pain has subsided considerably. Orthopedic Surgeon wants to brace me for 6 weeks. I am a little dubious about bracing at this late date.

Any comments out there. My last compression fractures, suffered two years ago, were not braced at all and I was feeling pretty wonderful before this latest fall.

Is bracing this late in the fracture advisable? Opinions greatly appreciated.

If your surgeon /physician is recommending bracing for another 6 weeks, I would definately listen to him.
