What's normal after surgery.

I had a spinal fusion 3 weeks ago. I can't remember exactly what they called the surgery, but will get more info on that at my 6 week check up. However, I have a question about what is normal to feel in your back afterwards. I seem to have very stiff muscles on either side of my incision area and when I walk or move slightly I swear I can feel the muscles move. Now is that normal to feel that?
