HI all ,
Newbie here ! I'm a 37 year old female , living in Canada ( originally from Glasgow) . I have worked as a PSW ( personal support worker ) fpr the best part of 20 years . As a result , my back is a mess . I have Degenerative disc disease. 5 herniated discs in my lower spine .
I was diagnosed 5 years ago but to be honest have had issues for longer. I pretty much got by taking things like tylenol , my doctor put me on Celebrex for a while , then took me off it as he was concerned about long term use . The last med I was on was Diclofenac ( Arthrotec ) . It worked ok . However , I made the choice to have Gastric bypass in December of last year therefore I am no longer able to take any type of Nsaids . After some discussion with my doctor , he said to try Nucynta ( Tapentadol) . It works well for the pain . But my concern is now , I have been taking it every day for around 2 months or so . With a few weeks breaks in between . During those weeks I've found that I do suffer from pain on a constant basis . And strangely enough ,I've been suffering a lot lately , even having lost 94 lbs so far . Re distribution of weight possibly ?
Anyway , I know I'm rambling here ! My question is , is it ok to take this drug on a long term basis ? I take 50 mg 4 times a day . I feel it's the only thing lately that works for me( celebrex was good too ) and I do feel I need to take it every day just based on my base pain level . I'm concerned about possible addiction , and or liver damage . But don't want to live my life in pain every day. Does anyone else take these ? For long term ? Any and all advice / info welcome .
