In July of 2002 I was injured on my job. I fought worker's comp for 6 months until I was finally allowed to see a Nuerologist of my choosing. By that time I had little feeling left on my whole right side and was having incontinence at times from lack of feeling. After an MRI that he finally ordered, he called me 9pm on a Friday night say that he had scheduled me for a cervical fusion of C5&6 early Monday morning with an Ortho surgeon. I had a long recovery period and limited range of motion, but the other symptoms went away.
In March of 2013, I was assaulted by a Mentally Ill client. He flipped me over a chair. I held the back of the chair w/ my right hand to catch myself and my legs went up over my head. I hit my left "butt bone" on the corner of the wooden chair. I tried to get my self up to sit unto the chair to steady myself and the client was still coming at me with his hands at my throat. A co-worker was able to get him off me. Again I found myself fighting worker's comp, but they refused to check out my neck this time due to a pre-existing injury. The only checked my "butt bone" and said that I had bursitis due to blunt forced trauma. It took 2 years this time, I foolishly settled not getting the medical attention that I needed. I tried to work as a PCT in Dialysis, but I would have such pain, extreme numbness, migraines, etc, etc. that I had to quit. I would have panic attacks about injuring someone because I couldn't feel to insert the needle. I had an MRI in December of 2014 that I used my insurance for....it showed that the previous plate had been pushed up into my other vertebrae which herniated C6&7. I had an ACDF in Jan. 2015. I was so relieved the numbness went away right after surgery. Unfortunately I have EXTREME limited range of motion and my body was compensating for soooo long I have shoulder issues as well. While doing shoulder PT, I felt a hot pain and numbness radiate from my neck, across my shoulder blade and down my right arm. It has not gone away and is very painful and keeping me up every night. I have been back 4x to the surgeon and he keeps telling me that it's normal, it will go away. After 2 strikes, I am so familiar with the signs and I know that something is seriously wrong again. Either the fusion loosened being only 5 months out or I have another herniated disc. Please give me advice. I have such a hard time getting them to listen. So tired of all this. I feel physically worse then I did before the surgery. Thanks for listening!
