Left lateral l2l3 disc impingement on l2 exit

Hi
My mri shows 3mm far left laterl disc impinges the exiting l2 nerve root in the left l2-l3 neural foramen. I am having trouble walking. The pain seems to be in the thigh  quadracep area of the leg.. Sometimes I have to pick the leg up and bring it forward.  I have trouble with placing the foot on the  ground.  Does anyone know whether a 3 mm disc can cause this type pain or had a similar experience. Is 3mm buldge considred large

  • Hi Ross,

I have a moderate bulge impinging the left far laterail aspect of my L5/S1 exiting canal, been told by my spine specialist that only 5% of disc bulges are like this, they are not easy to treat I have been trying for 4 months with physio, injections everything no luck and been told they are not easy.

Do you have a torn disc? I have a badly torn disc that has made my disc to narrow and I was told that this is what causes this kinda bulge.

Been told advised even a tiny bulge in this area can cause major issues because it causes a rubbing irrataion and nerve damage and the pain always varys.

I have the same issues, loss of strength, bad butt, thigh and calf pain into my toes.

    Good luck.

Mine impinges the L2 nerve root. I will try therapy. If that doesnt help I will consider surgery. What size is yours. Mine is 3mm. Are you taking ediciene. I am taking gabapentin which greatly helps. I am able to move the leg very well when I take the medicien. It has caused my leg to atrophy.

How long have you had yours. I think I have had mine for at least three years. This year the leg got woirse when Ilifted weights. I think the weights cause iit t buldge  more.

I have a herniated disc in the same region. P My symptoms are exactly what you describe. I am seeing a surgeon on 9/27. Will know more then. My advice is use a walker so you won't fall down and injure yourself further!
