Severe buttock, leg and thigh pain

my MRI scan showed problems with my L4 L5 and S1 I've been in pain now for 15 months I've had 2 cortisone injections which haven't worked. I can't sleep because of the severe leg pain
I can't walk stand sit for long , going up steps/ or stairs is painful. I have become an invalid , no longer enjoy the life I had, playing golf ,walking and hiking.
ive seen various doctors and think I could become a back specialist with the amount I have read about the subject. IVe tried physio and chiropractors but nothing helps.
ive now been told by yet another physiotherapist that I have sacroiliac joint disfunction .
I am getting desperate for a end to this pain, can I also say sometimes I feel like there is a clicking at the top of my leg when I walk and told it might be bursitis .
Any help would be greatly appreciated . Thank you .

  • Have you seen a neurosurgeon to get some specialist advice?

  • Hi welcome to spine health so many great people here to help and you might want to look at the information here on Si there is some very helpful info there.
So just in the right hand upper corner you can type in Si joint sacroiliac joint that is where I finally figured out maybe what was wrong with me. By maybe I have a therapist who is highly trained in dealing with this diagnose he did manual tests that brought the pain to a level of over 10. I am curious as to what test makes them think that is your problem if you don't mind me asking. The more we help each other the better for all of us since this pain is difficult like you say to live with sorry you are dealing with it.
Si joint dysfunction is fairly new in the medical world not many trained or looking in that area as an issue but it is changing and hopefully they will find more ways to address it.
Don't give up alright if you are not getting answers or help push on and on tell you get them.
    Take care Sherri

I have seen a neurosurgeon who said the same as one of the physiotherapist I saw in England and that it was sacroiliac joint problems .
i guess the worse thing apart from not being able to live an active life like I'd like to is the sleepless nights with the leg pain.
Can you help me with any excersises your therapist gives you, I do most of the ones on y tube for s1 and sacroiliac joint pain.
Does your therapist recommend any other treatment ? Is he/ she a physiotherapist or chiropractor ?
Does anyone know why injections don't help?
Sorry but I have so many questions as no medical person I've spoken to knows very much about the sacroiliac .

    Hello cillakizzy !
You mention the doctor's you have seen.
Have you been to pain management doctor?...spinal specialist?
I do not understand how you were diagnosed with sacroiliac joint dysfunction...and then say none of your medical people knows much about the sacroiliac....?

Have you considered a more specialized second opinion?

My PCP tried to care for my pain two years before referring me to pain management doctor. Best thing for me!
As he was treating me to take the edge off of my pain, he did variety of tests on me.
Many of these tests were not even mentioned to me previously.

As he continued to find causes of pain, he was able to readjust my treatments for more proper and effective lessening of pain.

  • I suffer from stenosis of all 5 lower lumbar..most likely the result of being a human windlass on our sailboat...150' 5/16s chain.  I am now a senior and paying the price for thinking I was an "amazon"...just because u can do it doesn't mean u should.   I am grateful neither of my grand daughters went into "jarring" sports.  Have spent many Dr. appts w the top specialists available...the bottom line is to keep moving and when u see young or older people doing things we know will affect them in LATER life....tell them...I have had both knees replaced 5+ years ago and they scream 24/7...but I keep  moving.  The level of depression is increasing and I have had suicidal thoughts when the pain is so overwhelming...I am finding it harder and harder to keep moving...all exercises r sooo painful...getting up and down from off the floor is laborious....thanks for letting me vent...I have been there and done that ....
