Sciatic nerve pain in both legs without back pain and hip pain since 4 months

I am 19 year old boy. I have pain and tingling (no numbness) in sciatic nerve in both legs. It started 1.5 years ago. I had tailbone pain back then. So i used to sit on bench (in college) such that my tailbone does not touch the bench, i.e. i used to sit on backward edge of the bench so that there is no pressure on my tailbone. I think that put pressure on my sciatic nerve. I went to doctor and the pain was gone after a diclofenac injection. But the pain came back again after 6 months and it went away with medicines. But 4 months ago pain came back and the injections or medicine did not work.i had an x ray and mri of my spine, but it showed no abnormality.

I don't have back pain or hip pain. I have tried stretching but pain worsens with that.

My pain worsens with sitting

I have tried exercise to strengthen hips but that also had no effect.

My pain decrease if i apply nanofast gel ( used to reduce pain, similar to iodex) in my buttocks before sleeping, so i have less pain the next day

  • Hi ,

Have you seen any kind of specialists about this?  There are many causes of sciatic pain including disc damage, arthritis and sometimes even food intolerances such as celiac disease. The causes are so varied only a specialist such as a neurologist can find the answers. I strongly suggest you seek expert opinion.  In the meantime the application of over the counter anti inflammatories might give some relief as well as heat/ ice treatment.  Also I get relief using a TENS unit.  These are available online or from your pharmacy for about $50 to $150 depending on the model.

Also look at your posture when sitting.  It may be that you need additional back support.  I find a back brace worn under my shirt helps me.

    Hope you find answers soon.
